Reflections on the Journey: We often wonder why students aren’t engaged and motivated to “do schoolwork” and learn the things “we know they should.” And yet, when we think about our own lives, how often are we engaged and motivated when people tell us what to do? Are we excited when bosses or spouses or the IRS tell us we must do this and that? I know I’m not. Our kids are like us. If we want them to be engaged and motivated to learn, we must allow and enable them to become the active agents of their learning, to follow their own personal learning journey.
